Miss Guyana World Arti Cameron has recently come off of an extended overseas campaign that has lifted the Golden Arrow Head and spotlighted Guyana in many ways. At Miss World 2012, Cameron was a Sports Finalist and won the Miss World 2012 People’s Choice Award powered by Missosology.
Miss Guyana World Arti Cameron has recently come off of an extended overseas campaign that has lifted the Golden Arrow Head and spotlighted Guyana in many ways. At Miss World 2012, Cameron was a Sports Finalist and won the Miss World 2012 People’s Choice Award powered by Missosology. The reigning queen feels blessed to have had the opportunity to represent Guyana on the international stage, a dream come true for the twenty-three year old pre-med student. She is very thankful to the individuals and organisations that have lent her the support needed to realize this dream.
Miss Cameron has now moved on to Stage 3 of her reign—“Spotlighting Guyana and Focusing on Empowering Others”. (Stage 1: “Spotlighting Guyana & Creating Awareness of Guyana’s Beauty Ambassador Ahead of Miss World 2012”; Stage 2: “Spotlighting Guyana and Competing With Honor”).
Since her return from Miss World 2012, Miss Cameron has rolled up her sleeves (no sash and crown) and has worked at the Calvary’s Mission Food Pantry in Queens, New York, joining an army of volunteers in handing out quality food items to unemployed and underemployed persons. She has also begun discussions with the organizers of this enterprise to consider giving support to another cause that is close to her heart in Guyana—the Ruimveldt Children’s Aid Centre which provides educational and social support for children in the surrounding community. Additionally, Cameron will be helping the Calvary Mission Food Pantry raise funds, and she will be attending their star- studded annual fundraising dinner in October, 2012, as part of her stronger focus on charity-oriented activities. In addition, the reigning queen has attended a number of events highlighting the achievement of Guyanese including the 2012 Guyana Cultural Association’s Awards Ceremony and the Consecration and Elevation Service of now Bishop Robin M. Dinnanauth–both in New York City.

The hectic schedule of Miss Guyana World 2012 does not prevent her from reflecting on her grand experiences at Miss World 2012, and enjoying a special sense of gratitude to all those who have made her experience possible, chief among them her fans,sponsors, and the media. She has spoken in glowing terms of the support she has received from the Guyana diaspora, and international online supporters who have kept her encouraged and helped her to win the independently run Miss World 2012 People’s Choice Award powered by Missosology. This meant a moral boost for Cameron and her fans. In addition, she has expressed deep appreciation for the support she has received from Guyana, the diaspora, and international media for providing coverage of her and Guyana’s effort at Miss World 2012. Her international multi-media campaign will surely become a golden standard for those coming after her.
Cameron offered, “The Guyana and diaspora media are second to none in their understanding of the need to support Guyana’s quest on the international stage whether at the Olympics, international pageants, or any effort to raise the Golden Arrow Head, tout our tourism offerings, or position Guyana in the international arena. Second to none.”
Recognitions & Gratitude
Regarding her sponsors, the reigning Miss Guyana World has expressed her deepest gratitude to the president and members of the Guyana Tri-State Alliance (GTSA), Patricia Jordon-Langford, Mohamed Safie, Yvonne Chaliha (and others) who have raised funds on an emergency basis for Cameron’s return ticket to China subsequent to being told—and very late—by the Miss Guyana World Organization that they could not provide her airfare. An associate of Jordon-Langford–Efney Hall–was also instrumental in providing a vibrant selection of high-end designer clothing that made up the bulk of Miss Cameron’s world-class wardrobe. Special thanks are also extended to the St. Joseph High School Old Students’ Association (New York City chapter), MGN Funding, Ms. Debbie Singh and other members of The Enmore Association of New York, that have also contributed significantly to fundraising efforts to ensure Cameron was able to compete at Miss World 2012.
The reigning queen has also expressed her thanks to Reginald Daniels, CEO of Daniel’s Financial Services in Manhattan, New York, for sponsoring her competition gown and a range of outfits created by Michelle Cole of COLEFACTS. Gem Fraser was another Guyanese designer who provided main pieces for Cameron’s Miss World 2012 wardrobe. Other Guyanese designers who have contributed to her Miss World wardrobe in significant ways are Roger Gary, Shanice Jones, Monica Caleb, and Pat Coates.
Given her international class wardrobe, the reigning Miss Guyana World’s fusion of cultural and modern styles has earned her tremendous esteem among her peers as a fashion-savvy competitor at Miss World 2012.
By way of enhancing her chic appearance in the premier international arena that Miss World 2012 was, Cameron donned jewelry from her personal collection as well as those provided by Gem Fraser, Nadia Jabour, Datsy’s Jewelry, Michelle Cole, Shanice Jones, Dem Two Hands, Ramesh D. Kalicharran and fellow St. Joseph’s High School alumni Antia McGill and Dyonne Wharton of Les Deux Ms.
Ano Okera editor-in-chief of The Beauté Book, an international magazine that has featured the reigning Miss Guyana World in its latest edition, has contributed to Miss Cameron’s wardrobe, provided styling services, supplied a range of footwear, and donated the free services of his magazine’s lead photographer, Adrian Ossington.
The prominent Hip-Hop Dance Conservatory (HDC) in New York City donated training for Cameron’s talent piece and traditional dance. Her costume for the talent piece was also provided by HDC while the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs in Guyana had provided her costume for the Traditional Dance/ Dances of the World segment. Cameron’s protocol consultant, Phillipa Morrish, of Etiquette Training International worked with the reigning queen, providing a guide to Chinese customs, protocol and etiquette which helped Cameron effectively navigate the host culture in Ordos, Inner Mongolia and other parts of China which she visited. ***Jonathan Locke, a Guyanese artist, provided Miss Cameron’s “country-gift” to Miss World–an exquisite piece of wooden art titled, “Guyana, Land of many Waters”. In addition, Cameron presented Miss World with semi-precious stones from Guyana–complements of Savitri Chotoo–for the Miss World “World Rock Garden”.
Arti Cameron wishes to extend her deepest gratitude to Guyanese and non-Guyanese alike who came together to help her realize her dream of representing Guyana and its people on the world stage. She believes that by working together and also by supporting efforts to positively highlight the South American gem, that Guyana’s greatest potential can be maximized–at home and abroad.
