SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – The Coast Guard seized more than 3,500 pounds of marijuana with an estimated wholesale value of $3.5 million during a drug interdiction in the Caribbean Sea.

While on patrol July 8, the Coast Guard Cutter Northland detected the suspicious 68-foot motor vessel An-Nur transiting the Caribbean Sea with five crew members onboard. Northland’s boarding team discovered 3,591 pounds of marijuana onboard.

The Northland crew seized the marijuana with an estimated street value of more than US$3.5M and the five member Guyanese crew was detained. The An-Nur was then taken into tow.

It is alleged that the ship is registered to a local Guyanese businessman and apparently carried rice between the Guyana and Jamaica.
