Andrew “Six Heads” Lewis Dies in Traffic Accident

Earlier today Andrew “Six Heads” Lewis died after the bicycle he was riding was in a collision with a car on the New Hope, East Bank Demerara Road.

In 2001 Lewis became the first boxer from Guyana to earn a world title when he defeated American James Page by TKO to win the World Boxing Association’s welterweight crown in Las Vegas.

The government of Guyana declared a national holiday after Brooklyn-based Lewis won the title. He was also given a home among among other prizes.

Lewis lost the title in 2002. He eventually returned to Guyana where he fought regional boxers before permanently retiring.
