General Summary

To establish and administer a maintenance organization, MRO, and associated policies and procedures capable of supporting the maintenance of Company aircraft, engines, propellers, and appliances in accordance with the standards of quality provided by the Company manuals, Federal Aviation Regulations, and Operation Specifications.

Responsible for ensuring the successful implementation and completion of the maintenance and MRO business plan, as well as overall function of the maintenance and MRO departments. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees, and maintenance-related customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Establish aircraft maintenance programs; primary responsibility for all maintenance performed on all aircraft, engines, parts, and assemblies and in compliance with all applicable regulations, company procedures, and manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Train, supervise, and assist the maintenance personnel in the procedures, methods, and industry best practices to be followed in each respective duty; ensure that each maintenance person is adequately trained and qualified prior to assignment.
  • Complete oversight and accountability for growth and profitability of the repair station.
  • Ensure all appropriate maintenance training records are maintained.
  • Ensure all work performed is done in a professional manner and in accordance with FAR Parts 43, 91, 135, and 145 and the company operations and maintenance policies and procedures.
  • Establish and maintain all contract maintenance activities including overhaul, aircraft modifications, and repair of structures, engines, and accessories in accordance with applicable regulations, company policies and procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure all required aircraft inspections and tests are performed on or before the required compliance time.
  • Establish a system of surveillance and analysis to accomplish realistic amendments to company inspection and maintenance procedures.
  • Establish and maintain a professional and good working relationship with the flight operations team, the operations control center and the FAA.
  • Exercise operational control over company aircraft with respect to aircraft maintenance when needed.
  • Initiate, amend, and sign for operations specifications relating to aircraft maintenance when needed.
  • Delegate functions to others, but retain the responsibility.
  • Ensure all required aircraft maintenance records are maintained in a current status and they meet the requirements of all applicable regulations.
  • Ensure the maintenance organization is compliant with all reporting requirements, including but not limited to MRR and MIS reports as required by FAR 135.415 and 135.417 in accordance with company procedures.
  • Responsible for all maintenance equipment, tools, and facilities and their compliance with all applicable regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Ensure adherence to procedures that promote the health and welfare of all employees in the maintenance facilities and maintenance departments.
  • Primary responsibility for the overall function of the department.
  • Promote the mission, vision, and values that the Company has developed.
  • Develop the maintenance employees in order for them to improve their ability to meet changes in their job requirements and in employee and customer needs.
  • Manage recruiting by reviewing applications, conducting phone and in-person interviews, and extending offers.
  • Provide direction, coaching, and professional development to employees with an individual and team focus.
  • Build individual and team competencies with ongoing positive and constructive feedback, as well as thorough annual performance evaluations.
  • Establish individual and team goals and objectives; develop metrics and scorecards to monitor progress and achievement.
  • Use appropriate methods to help build a cohesive team; facilitating the completion of team goals.
  • Administer counseling, commendation, or disciplinary actions when necessary, using proper documentation. 
  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer or higher authority.
  • Interface on a regular basis with other Vice Presidents as required, maintaining collaborative decision making.

Qualifications

  • Education should include an A&P license and a Bachelor’s degree in Aviation or Business as a minimum.

  • Exceptional customer focus and customer service.
  • Streamlining, cost-reduction, client interaction, production and materials planning, process improvement, team-building and supervision, and process optimization.
  • Develop operational goals for the maintenance department and MRO which are aggressive, yet obtainable, and tied to long-term goals of the Company.
  • Monitor maintenance and MRO performance against performance goals to ensure progress is being made and corrective action, if necessary, is taken.
  • Build an organizational culture in which passion for continuous improvement is innate.
  • Optimization of customer satisfaction and loyalty through improved operations.
  • Must be highly knowledgeable of aircraft manufacturer’s maintenance manuals, operations specifications, FARs, and applicable portions of the company manual.
  • 10 to 15 years of progressive maintenance and managerial experience.
  • Relevant industry experience desirable.
  • Experience as a team leader and project or program manager.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Familiar with industry concepts and best practices.
