Passing of Merle Ramayya – Alliance For Change (AFC) Press Release

The Alliance For Change (AFC) regrets the passing of Mrs Serojny Merle Ramayya, wife of Dr. Versammy Ramayya MP and member, sister and friend of the AFC.

Mrs Ramayya or Merle as she was commonly known, was a kind and humble person who provided quiet and dignified support to her family and the AFC family. She will best be remembered for her willingness to serve and dedication to her family. She co-hosted the first-ever Berbice held AFC National Executive Committee leadership meeting at Whim on February 9, last.


The Alliance For Change (AFC) regrets the passing of Mrs Serojny Merle Ramayya, wife of Dr. Versammy Ramayya MP and member, sister and friend of the AFC.

Mrs Ramayya or Merle as she was commonly known, was a kind and humble person who provided quiet and dignified support to her family and the AFC family. She will best be remembered for her willingness to serve and dedication to her family. She co-hosted the first-ever Berbice held AFC National Executive Committee leadership meeting at Whim on February 9, last.

Merle is widely known for her charity and kind, humanitarian work, especially among children in Berbice, whom she provided books and gifts annually over several years. She was a priceless asset among our women and a gentle fighter for a better Guyana.

Merle, who hailed from Whim Village, Corentyne, Berbice, suffered a brain aneurism on March 19, 2013 and was in a coma until she died.
The Leadership and members of the AFC express heartfelt condolence to Dr. Ramayya and his family at this most difficult time.
