Iris Ramgadoo was born on February 10, 1922 in Plantation Albion, Corentyne, Guyana. Her father was Rajaram (also known as Basil Madhoo) and her mother was Parkalia (also known as Sarah). Her father came from India in 1894 to Guyana at the age of two with his mother Usafy Shanker. Iris was the third child and last surviving sibling among six brothers namely: Victor, Arnold, Roy, Ronald, Stanley and Kenneth.

Iris was married at Letter Kenny Presbyterian Church on January 20, 1941 to William Ramgadoo (deceased October 27, 1973 in Guyana) and lived at Bloomfield Village, Corentyne until she emigrated to the USA on January 17, 1977. Iris passed away on November 1, 2013 at 3:56 PM, peacefully in her sleep. She will be remembered as a hard worker who made many sacrifices for her family. She lit up the room with her positive energy. Most importantly, she lived her life as a humble, nurturing and kindhearted individual. Her spirit lives on through her 9 children, 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Her greatest legacy will be the beautiful life she built for family. We find solace in the reunion she is experiencing with her husband, parents and siblings.
