RUSH- Movie Premier – Featuring the Formula 1 championship battle of 1976 between Niki Lauda and James Hunt

Yesterday I saw the Washington DC premier for the movie “Rush” and what a rush it was. From the opening moments the sound of racing engines seems to envelope you in your seat and you can almost smell the heady mix of high performance fuels and burning rubber.

Yesterday I saw the Washington DC premier for the movie “Rush” and what a rush it was. From the opening moments the sound of racing engines seems to envelope you in your seat and you can almost smell the heady mix of high performance fuels and burning rubber. The movie is set in the 1970s, the golden era of Formula 1 racing and is the true story of the magnificent rivalry between devil-may-care Englishman James Hunt and the analytical and deliberate Austrian, Niki Lauda.

The movie chronicles their almost diametrically opposed approaches to their chosen career of daredevil driving, to love and to living life, during the 1976 Formula 1 season. These two men who are so different in their approach share a common goal, to be the World Champion of F1 racing. The question becomes how far they will go to achieve that goal at speeds that were in excess of 170 mph and conditions that sometimes seemed suicidal.

Rush is a job well done, much more than just a movie about motor racing, it explores mans enduring quest to conquer and win.

I give it 4 out of 5 for content and entertainment.
