Clive Ng-A-Kien - Professional Motor
Cycle Racer
Born in Guyana, Clive Ng-A-Kien
was racing motor cycles since the age of 16, when he got his
first bike and won the first race he entered. Since that time,
the sky's been the limit for this Canadian resident.
In 1974 and 1975, he was dirt
track champion and represented Guyana in track races in
Barbados. In 1975, Ng-A-Kien immigrated to Canada and the
following year began racing on a 125 cc Yamaha. After winning
the Canadian Motorcycle Association Championship 250 and 500 cc
junior classes, he was promoted to expert and obtained a
professional motorcycle license from the American Motorcycle
Association.
The next step was Daytona, where
he placed consistently in the top five. As a result of this
performance, Ng-A-Kien represented Canada in Jamaica and broke
the Jamaican track record which had been set by top American
rider John Long. He matched this record with another. Ng-A-Kien
was the fit Canadian rider to finish in one of the top three
spots in the Canadian World 750 Championship race in the 250
support class. More recently, and closer to home, he finished
second in the 125 race at Mosport and third on a Honda in the
250 cc class. It was during this race that he set the fastest
lap time of one minute, 3.31 seconds - yet another record.
